Wisdom tooth treatment FAQs
Does every wisdom tooth need to be removed?
No. Some wisdom teeth erupt normally and remain healthy. Removal may be recommended when a tooth is impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, difficult to clean or threatening nearby teeth. An exam and imaging are needed to make that decision.
Can you treat an infected wisdom tooth?
We can evaluate the infection, relieve urgent symptoms and determine the appropriate next step. Depending on the situation, treatment may include cleaning the area, medication, removal or referral. Antibiotics alone do not permanently correct the underlying tooth problem.
Will I be awake during wisdom tooth removal?
Many removals can be completed comfortably with local anesthesia. Additional sedation may be available when clinically appropriate. Your dentist will review your health history, the complexity of the procedure and the safest comfort options for you.
How long does recovery take?
Recovery varies with the number and position of teeth removed and your overall health. Swelling and soreness commonly peak during the first few days and then improve. You will receive written aftercare instructions tailored to your procedure.
Can I schedule online?
